Ballot Statement

THE CITY COUNCIL OF UNION CITY
CANDIDATE'S BALLOT STATEMENT
November 7th, 2006 Election

MANUEL FERNANDEZ
Councilmember

Education: Bachelor of Science in Architecture & Planning

You have entrusted me as your representative in the Union City Council for the past ninteen years. It is an achievement I am fortunate to have. Thank you for your support.

Five years ago, my platform included: maintaining quality of life through economic growth; more leisure and athletic opportunities for youths; additional senior and affordable housing; and ease regional travel with Intermodal Station.

Today, despite many challenges, our accomplishments outnumber problems. Union Landing, the project I supported from the start, is a reliable, solid provider of city revenues. The skateboard park is built; gymnasium is under construction. Complexes for senior and affordable housing are completed. The Intermodal Station is in design.

I am seeking this term to address today's challenges. Top on my list are crime prevention in our neighborhoods, public safety citywide, and emergency preparedness. To fund them, we need revenues from sustained economic growth; the biotech industry is one to target. As we look at regional solutions to local problems, we must bolster alliances with the schools, nearby municipalities, and government agencies. To provide quality services amidst increasing cost, city leaders need to be innovative and experienced.

Thank you for your vote.
